Ken, I'm not a tech enough to know for sure, and of course diagnosing without examination is always risky.

However, if there's no shielding it's a hum problem just waiting to happen. And extra wire lengths is also undesirable, because how do you make an antenna? From a length of wire.

Any good amp/guitar tech should be able to fix this for you. But for starters, you could get some 'snail killer' copper tape from the gardening section of any larger hardware store, and use it to create shielding around your electronics. And that might be enough to do the trick.

I have a (Mexican-made) Fender Jazz Bass, that I bought three years ago, Used mainly for small church gigs, practice and jamming. One day I increased the volume and heard an annoying loud HUM,from my Peavey Amp.
Assuming it was the Amp producing the Hum, I bought a Fender Rumble 100. At a locale club, during 'open mike night' I discovered that the Hum was still present when I went past 6 on Amp volume and 8-10 on Bass Guitar volume. Tried other Bass Guitars and had NO Hum. Checked wiring diagram for Fender and found it to be wired' correctly. Found a lot of extra 'wire length"under pots and no shielding. Do you think the extra wire could be causing the hum? Or a bad pot? I have owned many Basses and never had a problem like this. Thanks Ken
